‘GDN’ actress Dushara Vijayan has spoken about the personal loss that continues to stay with her. The actress recalled the death of her elder sister in a recent interview. She revealed that her sister had been living with myopathy since birth.
Dushara Vijayan opens up about her sister
Dushara said her sister was paralysed from the neck down. She also explained how her sibling influenced her interests from a young age. The actress became emotional while remembering their close relationship. The actress shared these memories during an interview with SS Music.“I miss her. Whenever I go out now, I don’t pray to God. I look at my sister’s photograph and pray.”She was speaking as part of the promotional activities for her newly released film ‘GDN’ starring R Madhavan in the lead.
Sister played a role in her passion for dance
Dushara revealed that her interest in dance began because of her sister. Although her sibling could not walk, she encouraged Dushara to dance and experiment with different movements.“Actually, the reason I developed an interest in dance from a young age was because of my sister. She couldn’t walk. Her condition was somewhat similar to Nagarjuna sir’s character in the film ‘Thozha’. In that movie, Nagarjuna’s character becomes paralysed after an accident. But my sister had been like that since birth.”She explained that her sister did not have any physical difficulties above the neck. However, the paralysis affected the rest of her body. The family had to assist her with her daily activities.“There was nothing wrong with her from the neck up. Her body was paralysed from the neck down. So we had to help her with everything.”
Dushara Vijayan recalls their close bond
The actress also remembered how her sister would encourage her while sitting in a wheelchair. According to Dushara, her sibling would suggest different ways for her to dance.“But she would sit in her chair and tell me, ‘Play like this, dance like this,’ and things like that. Sometimes, everything would actually begin with her.”Dushara said her sister remained an important influence in her life. She also spoke about the closeness they shared before her sister’s death. “I was extremely close to my sister,” Dushara said.The actress revealed that she has two elder sisters named Leepika and Durga. Her second elder sister died around 10 years ago after living with myopathy.
‘Magudam’ actress recalls life with her brother
During the same conversation, Dushara also spoke about her relationship with her younger brother. She revealed that the two of them lived together in Chennai for around seven years.“I lived in Chennai with my younger brother for around seven years. Technically, I am his mother. That’s how it is. He is actually like my child to me.”Dushara received much love for several films including ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’, ‘Natchathiram Nagargiradhu’, ‘Raayan’ and ‘Vettaiyan’.She currently stars in the biographical drama ‘G.D.N.’, which released in theatres on August 7, 2026.Dushara is also set to appear in the action thriller ‘Magudam’. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14, 2026.
