NEW DELHI: Over 9.69 crore person-days have been generated in approximately a month of the rollout of the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act (VB-G RAM G) which replaced MGNREGA, the govt informed Lok Sabha on Tuesday.When VB- G RAM G Scheme was rolled out from July 1, revised wage rates were notified by the govt with a new interim base wage rate of Rs 300 per day. With this the national average notified wage increased from Rs 298.8 per day under MGNREGA to Rs 327.4 under VB–G RAM G, representing an average increase of Rs 28.6 per day. Prior to this notification, wage rates in several states were below Rs 300, with the lowest notified wage being Rs 241 per day.Meanwhile, the parliamentary standing committee on rural development and panchayati raj in its report submitted in Parliament on Tuesday recommended a comprehensive review of the wage-determination methodology including the appropriateness of the 2011 base year and the adequacy of CPI-AL and consider instituting a minimum wage floor of Rs 400 per day with regional differentiation and ensure systematic and meaningful indexation to a robust inflation indicator that reflects actual rural living costs.“Pending structural revision, necessary fiscal space should be sought for a significant upward adjustment in the current cycle,” the panel chaired by Congress MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka recommended. The Committee in its report, on the action taken on the recommendations contained in its earlier report submitted in Parliament in March on ‘Demands for Grants (2026-27) related to the department of rural development, has sought an action taken report on the fresh recommendations within three months.In a written response to a question asked by Congress MPs Vijayakumar Alias Vijay Vasanth and Manickam Tagore, rural development minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan informed the Lok Sabha that the VB-G RAM G scheme has been implemented in rural areas of the entire country.

The VB-G RAM G scheme provides for a statutory guarantee of 125 days of wage employment in a financial year to every rural household whose adult members volunteer to undertake unskilled manual work against 100 days of guaranteed wage employment available under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS.In response to the question on whether the govt has taken note of concerns raised by several State Governments regarding the financial structure of VB-G RAM-G and details of the reasons for shifting financial burden to states up to 40% under VB-G RAM-G. “Presently almost all centrally sponsored schemes (CSS) across sectors are being implemented on the 60:40 sharing model. The 60:40 pattern adopted under this Act is therefore consistent with the broader framework of Centrally Sponsored Schemes,” the minister said and shared that regular consultations were being held with states. The fund sharing pattern is 90:10 with the Centre bearing 90% of the expenditure incase of union territories and northeastern and Himalayan states.
