New Delhi: BJP Friday said Rahul Gandhi had orchestrated the “drama” of sitting on dharna in a police station as a diversionary ploy after Congress came under flak across the country over its stand on Vande Mataram.“Rahul manufactured this drama suddenly as a cover for his anti-national stand and to divert attention from this big embarrassment,” Union minister J P Nadda said, as the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha staged a sit-in at Parliament Street police station.“The country is again witnessing his cheap and diversionary politics,” Nadda said as he questioned the need for the protest when Supreme Court had taken cognisance of a batch of petitions alleging police excesses on July 20 and had constituted a five-member committee headed by a retired judge to look into the matter.“Does the leader of opposition have no faith in the judiciary? The truth is Rahul is indulging in this drama for cameras to keep himself in the headlines,” Nadda said as the governing party fielded several senior functionaries to take on Congress.BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said the demonstration was reflective of Rahul’s “anarchic politics” and underscored his lack of respect for due process and law and order.BJP’s counter-offensive came even as it kept the heat on Congress over its decision to stick to singing the first two stanzas of the national song after Parliament passed a law to make any insult to it a penal offence following the govt’s directive that all six stanzas should be sung or played at all official events.

Defence minister Rajnath Singh said Congress’s stand marked another surrender to fundamentalist elements, a pointer to the objection from a section of Muslims that the song was anti-Islamic for its reference to idolatry, emphasising that it has had grave consequences for the country in the past.Nadda said Rahul made tall claims about democracy and debate but Congress scuttled a discussion in Parliament over the alleged police excesses after home minister Amit Shah dared him for it.Citing PM Narendra Modi’s jibe that Congress is a parasite which finishes off those associated with it, he said the party is now determined to damage the fut-ure of students.
