NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhijeet Dipke on Sunday accused the Maharashtra government of compensating the kin of Adivasi students, who died in ashram schools, with less than “what some politicians spend on their pets in a year.“In a social media post on X, Dipke claimed that the kin of more than 590 Adivasi students were given just Rs 2 lakh as compensation.“More than 590 Adivasi students died in Maharashtra’s ashram schools in just two years,” Dipke said“Their families received just Rs 2 lakh in compensation,” he added.CJP leader also claimed that the state government failed to ensure the safety of the students and that they died “due to neglect.”“The state fails to ensure their safety and well-being, and when students die due to neglect, lack of care and mismanagement, their families are handed Rs 2 lakh. That’s probably less than what some politicians spend on their pets in a year,” Dipke said.

“Is this what an Adivasi student’s life is worth to the state?” he questioned.Dipke’s remarks came days after tribal students launched protests, demanding the recruitment of Scheduled Tribe candidates in government jobs and improvements in the condition of residential schools for tribal children.The protests in Pune, Nagpur and Nashik began in the aftermath of the death of three tribal girls due to snakebites at a residential school in Gadchiroli district.The protesters had also sought Rs 10 crore insurance coverage for every student staying in tribal hostels and studying in tribal residential schools.
