Rocking Star Yash’s much anticipated ‘Toxic’ received mixed response from the audience upon its theatrical release. Being a big ambition of a film, there were huge expectations with the film which it wasn’t able to stand on. Recently, a close friend of Yash, actor Jaidev Mohan has now opened up about his reaction to the criticism. He shared that although Yash did not spend too much time thinking about the negative response but added that the pain in the actor’s voice was clear when they spoke after the release.
Yash’s reaction to ‘Toxic’ mixed response
Speaking to Prajavani, Jaidev recalled speaking to Yash over the phone after ‘Toxic’ arrived in theatres. He said he himself struggled to handle the harsh criticism despite being only a small part of the film.“I haven’t met him since the film’s release. I’ve spoken over the phone with him twice. The day this film released, after seeing all the repercussions, I am only a small part of this film, and I couldn’t take it. I took the harsh criticism to heart,” he said.
Yash asked Jaidev not to take criticism personally
Jaidev said Yash then called him and asked him not to take the criticism personally.“He said, ‘Don’t take it to your heart, it’s done, released, now let’s leave it to the people. It’s their choice. We made this film with dedication and gave it to the audience. That’s it. You don’t dwell on it too much. Get ready, there’s more work. Got it? See you soon,’” Jaidev recalled.For the unversed, Jaidev Mohan was also part of ‘Toxic’ as he was involved in the Kannada dubbing of the film.Jaidev Mohan further shared that Yash remains composed during their conversation, he could understand that the response to ‘Toxic’ from the viewers had affected him. “But you could feel the pain in his voice,” he said.Jaidev also shared why he believes the response would have been difficult for Yash. He said he had seen ‘Toxic’ develop from its early stages and had watched Yash remain involved with the project for years.“I have heard the story evolve from when it was just a seed. I’ve seen it evolve through various phases over the four and a half years until the final narration. He is the reason for that whole process. How hurt must he be,” he said.
‘Toxic’ box office collection
Released on August 26, the film opened to a massive Rs 100 crore collection, however, it drastically dropped in the coming days. According to Sacnilk, in 14 days the film’s total net collections came to Rs. 247.25 crore. Meanwhile, the worldwide gross collection stands at Rs. 338.50 crore.

Speaking about ‘Toxic’, the film directed by Geetu Mohandas and co-written by her and Yash is a gangster action thriller with Yash seen in a dual role as a father and son. The film focuses on the early life of Raya played by Yash and his journey to grasp the criminal empire in Goa and also the conflicted past he shared with his son Ticket.The film also features Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth.
