NEW DELHI: RJD national working president Tejashwi Yadav has demanded an immediate Rs 15,000 relief payment for every family hit by floods and drought in Bihar.The demand comes as as the state continues to deal with widespread flooding and damage to homes and crops. The state government and Centre have also step up relief measures, with around 50 lakh people affected by this year’s floods.
Rs 15,000 relief sought for affected families
Yadav has called for an immediate Rs 15,000 payment to each family affected by the floods and drought. The demand comes amid reports of extensive inundation and damage across Bihar.The Centre has already provided Rs 7,000 per affected family, according to Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.Chouhan said earlier that the flood situation in Bihar this year had “broken all records”, with a large area inundated and around 50 lakh people affected.He said crop and house damage had also been reported from several locations.“The flood this year has broken all records. A large area has been inundated, affecting about 50 lakh of the population. We also saw crop and house damage at several locations. But it is satisfying that under the leadership of CM Samrat Choudhary, rescue and relief operations are going on very well,” Chouhan said.
Relief camps provide food, schooling and other support
During his visit to a flood relief camp at Government Polytechnic College in Bhagalpur, Chouhan said arrangements had been made for affected families, including temporary schooling and anganwadi services.“In the relief camp of Bhagalpur, a temporary school and anganwadi have also been set up. Yoga is also being taught to the children here. All arrangements are being made. Rs 7000 per family has been deposited into the accounts of flood-affected families. PM Narendra Modi sent me here on behalf of the Central Govt. Along with the CM, I inspected several places today. There is a crisis. State Govt is working, and the Central Govt will extend all help to them”

Ministers, MPs donate salaries to relief fund
Bihar chief minister Samrat Choudhary has announced that he will donate one month’s salary to the CM’s Relief Fund for flood-affected families.Deputy chief minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary and road construction minister Kumar Shailendra have also handed over cheques equivalent to one month’s salary.A day earlier, BJP’s Nitin Nabin announced a Rs 6.35 lakh donation, equivalent to three months’ salary as a Rajya Sabha member. The Bihar BJP also contributed Rs 51 lakh to the relief fund.
