NEW DELHI: Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi‘s long-running feud with Salman Khan brought actor Tiger Shroff into the spotlight on Sunday after gunmen opened fire at his car in Mumbai’s Juhu. Seven rounds were fired in the incident, but the actor escaped without bullet injuries.Shroff’s driver, Firdaus, and another person were injured in the October 18 attack, which prompted a police investigation into the identity of the assailants and their motive.A message attributed to the Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the firing and linked it to Shroff’s association with superstar Salman Khan. The message also warned others in the film industry against working with Salman.The attack is the latest in a series of incidents involving threats and violence allegedly linked to the Bishnoi network against Bollywood personalities and others associated with Salman Khan.
Why has Salman Khan been mentioned?
The Bishnoi gang’s message after the incident linked the attack to Tiger Shroff’s professional association with Salman Khan. It claimed that Shroff had been warned earlier but had ignored the warning.The message stated: “Anyone in the Mumbai film industry who does not listen to us or works with Salman Khan will be next.”In an audio message released after the attack, a man identified as Anil Pandit threatened Salman Khan and his family, warning the actor against relying on his security and demanding an apology to Lawrence Bishnoi and the Bishnoi community.“Listen to me carefully, Salman Khan. If you don’t apologise to my elder brother, Lawrence Bishnoi, or to the Bishnoi community, then we won’t even leave a dog in your house. We will destroy your entire family. Keep this in mind. Don’t think that you are in security and nothing will happen to you,” Pandit said in the audio message.The message also warned rival gang members against using the group’s name to gain attention. It appeared to be aimed at intimidating not just Shroff but others in the film industry who work with Salman Khan.The authenticity of the messages and the gang’s claimed role in the attack remain subject to police verification.The dispute involving the Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor dates back to the 1998 blackbuck poaching case. Lawrence Bishnoi has repeatedly threatened the actor over the case, citing the blackbuck’s religious significance to the Bishnoi community.
Threats against Salman Khan over the years
The threats against Salman Khan have continued for years.In June 2022, a threat letter was reportedly found at Bandra Bandstand, where the actor’s father, Salim Khan, used to go for walks.The letter warned that Salman Khan would meet the same fate as Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, who was murdered in May that year.In March 2023, Salman Khan’s manager received a threatening email referring to Lawrence Bishnoi’s threats against the actor. The email also mentioned Goldy Brar, a Canada-based gangster and a close associate of Lawrence Bishnoi.
Firing outside Salman Khan’s home in 2024
On April 14, 2024, two motorcycle-borne men opened fire outside Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments residence in Bandra. The actor was not injured.Mumbai Police alleged that the shooting was carried out at the behest of the Bishnoi gang. Anmol Bishnoi, Lawrence’s brother and a close associate, was among those wanted in connection with the case.Investigators examined the roles of the alleged shooters and their associates, including how the attack was planned.In a separate case, Navi Mumbai Police filed a chargesheet in 2024 alleging that members of the gang had been offered Rs 25 lakh to attack Salman Khan.According to the police, the plan included targeting him during a film shoot or while he was travelling to his Panvel farmhouse.The case also highlighted the role of people allegedly involved in surveillance and planning, beyond those who directly carried out an attack.
Baba Siddique murder and Rohit Shetty firing
The threats surrounding Salman drew further attention after former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique was shot dead on October 12, 2024.Siddique, a three-time MLA and Nationalist Congress Party leader, was killed outside the office of his son, Zeeshan Siddique, in Bandra East.A social media post linked to the Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the murder and warned those helping Salman Khan. Police investigated the alleged links.On February 1, 2026, gunmen opened fire outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu.A post attributed to people linked to the Bishnoi network claimed responsibility and threatened further violence if its demands were ignored.Mumbai Police and the Crime Branch investigated the shooting, including the suspected attackers and their alleged links to the network.How the Bishnoi network operatesThe Lawrence Bishnoi network’s alleged modus operandi involves different people handling the planning and execution of attacks.Police investigations have examined suspected surveillance, recruitment of shooters, weapons supply, communication between associates, and arrangements for transport and escape.In the 2024 case involving Salman, police alleged that the attackers had gathered information about the actor’s movements and locations over an extended period. Investigators also looked into the roles of several people suspected of helping plan the attack.The network led by jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi has also been linked to attacks beyond India, including incidents in Canada and the UK.These include multiple shootings at comedian Kapil Sharma’s cafe in Canada, which drew attention to the gang’s overseas reach.In November 2025, news agency PTI reported that the National Investigation Agency arrested Anmol Bishnoi after his deportation from the United States.He was wanted in cases including the murder of Baba Siddique and the firing outside Salman Khan’s residence.Anmol is Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother and a close associate.
