A team leader has to choose between two suppliers for a new project. One is cheaper and more reliable. The other was his own suggestion last year, and switching away might look like admitting a mistake. So the meeting drags on.Ego often hides inside decisions like this one. Chapter 3, Verse 27 of the Bhagavad Gita explains how. Krishna says the qualities of nature carry out all actions, yet a person confused by ego believes they alone are the doer. That idea makes every choice seem like a measure of one’s worth.
Ego Turns Choices Into Verdicts
Once ego gets involved, a decision stops being about the best option. It becomes about being right. The team leader’s real question is which supplier delivers on time. Pride quietly swaps it for another one: how will this make him look?
Ahankara Is the Claiming Self
The word Krishna uses is ahankara. It is the part of the mind that insists on credit and dreads blame. It speaks loudly in meetings and even louder at night, replaying every choice. Many Hands Make for Every Outcome. Hearing Krishna say nature does the work is humbling. Market prices and other people’s choices both shape any result.Seeing this lowers the pressure on a single decision. It also makes changing course much easier when the facts shift.
Strong Does Not Mean Stubborn
A strong decision rests on facts and a clear purpose. A stubborn one rests on pride. So before finalising anything, ask one plain question. Would this still be the pick if someone else had suggested the alternative?
Arjuna’s Ego Wore a Kind Face
Arjuna’s refusal to fight looked like compassion. Part of it came from seeing himself as the one who would cause every death on that field.Later in the Gita, Krishna asks him to act as an instrument in a much larger order. Arjuna never had to carry the weight of the whole war alone.
The Supplier Meeting Ends
Verse 27 separates the doer from the one who claims the credit. That gap leaves room for clearer thinking. The team leader switched suppliers the following week. He mentioned the change in a two-line email, and nobody brought up the old choice again.
