JAMMU: Flash floods triggered by a cloudburst in Chatroo area of J&K’s Kishtwar district early Saturday damaged shops and houses, inundated the main market with boulders, mud and slush, damaged Kishtwar–Chatroo–Sinthan national highway, and prompted authorities to shut schools.Meanwhile, Amarnath Yatra was suspended from Jammu’s Bhagwati Nagar base camp on Saturday as Jammu–Srinagar NH remained closed for the second consecutive day due to incessant rain.“At least two vehicles parked near a local stream in Kishtwar were washed away, while four to five shops and around three houses were damaged. No casualties have been reported so far,” an official said.Union minister Jitendra Singh said shopkeepers and business owners affected by the cloudburst would receive compensation in accordance with govt relief norms.Schools also remained shut in Doda, Poonch, and Ramban districts due to incessant rain.
