NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed distress over the collapse of a five-storey boys’ PG in Delhi’s Satya Niketan and condoled the loss of life.“The collapse of a building at Satya Niketan, Delhi is distressing. Condolences to those who lost their loved ones. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. Authorities are working at the site and assisting those affected in the mishap,” PM Modi said.Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta said those responsible for the “unfortunate” collapse would not be spared, adding that “relief operations have been underway to save the lives of those trapped and provide all possible assistance”.“It is a very unfortunate incident. Ever since we received information about the building collapse, rescue and relief operations have been underway to save the lives of those trapped and provide all possible assistance. I can assure you that those responsible will be investigated. There will be no compromise, and the guilty will not be spared. I am now going to the hospital,” Rekha Gupta said.A five-storey building operating as a boys’ PG collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan on Sunday afternoon, leaving one person dead and several others feared trapped beneath the debris, officials said.The building came down at around 1.30 pm in the crowded neighbourhood near Delhi University’s South Campus. The area has several student accommodations and eateries, with many buildings located along narrow lanes.Residents said the structure was nearly 20 years old and that construction work was being carried out in the basement when it collapsed.
