The registration window for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 is expected to open soon, with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras yet to announce a revised date for the application process.The registration was earlier scheduled to begin on August 27, but IIT Madras postponed the process without announcing a new date. The official GATE 2027 portal now says that the revised application dates will be announced “soon”.This is the second time the institute has deferred the start of registration. The application process was initially scheduled to begin on August 14, before being shifted to August 27 and then postponed again.The reason for the delay has not been announced.
GATE 2027 registration : DigiLocker made compulsory
For GATE 2027, IIT Madras has introduced a change in the application process for Indian candidates.Indian applicants will be required to register through DigiLocker. Candidates have been advised to create their DigiLocker accounts or update their existing accounts before the registration window opens.With the application date still pending, candidates can use this time to keep their documents ready and complete any required updates to their DigiLocker accounts.
Documents required for GATE 2027 registration
Candidates planning to appear for GATE 2027 should keep scanned copies of the required documents ready before filling out the application form.The documents include:
- Recent photograph and signature
- Scanned copy of a valid photo identity proof. Candidates will also have to carry the original identity proof to the GATE 2027 examination centre
- Scanned copy of Scheduled Caste (SC) or Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificate, if applicable
- Scanned copy of Unique Disability Identification (UDID) or Person with Benchmark Disability (PwD) certificate, if applicable
- Scanned copy of Dyslexic certificate, if applicable
- Relevant annexures or certificates for compensatory time and scribe facility, if applicable
Candidates should ensure that the documents meet the specifications prescribed by IIT Madras before uploading them during registration.
GATE 2027 application fee
The application fee during the regular registration window is Rs 2,000 for male candidates and candidates belonging to the unreserved category. The fee is Rs 1,000 for female candidates and candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Person with Disability categories.Candidates will have to pay the applicable fee while submitting the application form.
GATE 2027 exam dates
Although the registration schedule has been delayed, the examination dates announced for GATE 2027 remain scheduled in February.The exam is set to be conducted on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21.The exact schedule for individual papers will be available through the official GATE 2027 schedule.
What candidates should do now
With the registration window expected to open soon, candidates do not need to wait for the application form to start preparing.They can create or update their DigiLocker account, keep the required certificates and identity documents ready and check that their photograph and signature are available in the required format.IIT Madras is yet to announce the revised registration dates. Candidates should therefore keep checking the official GATE 2027 portal for the next update.
