Diwali bonuses are an established custom in Indian workplaces, and a Surat businessman has found himself at the centre of an online wave of goodwill after videos of his Diwali bonus ceremony began circulating on social media. Ramswaroop Munde, owner of Mahadev Cloth Centre in Mota Varachha, presented his employees with bundles of fresh ₹10 to ₹500 notes, arranged on ceremonial puja thalis. The bonuses reportedly came to ₹1 lakh per worker and ₹20 lakh in total.Munde called his staff family, saying their hard work deserved to be celebrated. The footage shows the money offered the way a blessing would be, not handed over like a payslip. One employee, Rekhaben Bhalada, said the money would help her buy a house.
Reaction online
Responses were largely warm. One user wrote: “Bless the man and employees.” Another said: “Some bosses in India are very generous on Diwali and reward their work force. This sort of money would cover alot of people’s Diwali costs.”Some users said the gesture fits a pattern in the city. One comment said: “Many Surat businessmen give very costly gifts to their staff members on different occasions. I heard a diamond businessman in Surat gave a house to nearly 25 or 30 staff members.”The story has been taken from social media and has not been independently verified.
