NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday lauded the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) after the successful launch of the GSLV-F17 rocket carrying the advanced Earth Observation Satellite-05 (EOS-05), calling the mission an “outstanding achievement” and a proud moment for the nation.The satellite was launched by Isro from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on Friday aboard the GSLV-F17. The rocket precisely placed the 2,367-kg EOS-05 into its intended sub-geosynchronous transfer orbit (Sub-GTO), marking another major milestone for India’s space programme.“Yet another outstanding achievement by ISRO and a proud moment for our nation. The successful launch of GSLV-F17 carrying EOS-05, India’s first-ever imaging satellite from Geosynchronous orbit is a reflection of the excellence, innovation and growing capabilities that define India’s space sector,” PM Modi said in a post on X.The Prime Minister also highlighted the expanding role of Indian industry in the country’s space programme. He said the growing partnership with ISRO was helping strengthen the sector and broaden India’s capabilities.“The growing partnership between ISRO and Indian industry is adding new strength and scale to our space programme and expanding India’s capabilities across the entire space ecosystem,” he added.Isro chief V Narayanan described the mission as a significant achievement for India’s space programme. He said the satellite was in good health after being injected into orbit.“I am very happy to announce that the GSLV-F17 vehicle has successfully and precisely injected the Advanced Earth Observation Satellite 05, the geo-imaging satellite, in the intended and required orbit,” he said.

Narayanan said EOS-05 would become India’s first dedicated imaging satellite operating from a geosynchronous orbit once it is operationalised. The satellite is expected to provide important strategic data for the country.“Today, we have injected the heaviest satellite, 2367 kgs, using this launch vehicle. The health of the satellite is perfectly alright,” the ISRO chief said.The GSLV-F17 mission was the 19th flight of India’s geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle. It was launched from the second launch pad at Sriharikota and carried EOS-05 towards a sub-GTO.The mission adds to India’s growing earth observation capabilities while highlighting the increasing technological strength of its space programme.
